Studying abroad. Which country to choose

Today many young people understand that with a diploma of European-level higher education, opportunities for professional realization increase dramatically. Therefore, European education is increasingly attracting young people. A number of respectable countries beckon with their broad prospects, the possibility of free education, and further employment. But if you haven't decided where exactly to go, then this article is for you. Experts from the hotline of the NGO "Club of Business Women" suggest considering the TOP-5 most popular countries that Belarusians go to for knowledge.

    Prepare in advance

It is advisable to start preparing for admission to a foreign university a couple of years before graduating from school. It will take more than one day to thoroughly study the educational system of other countries and decide on a university. Study reviews, ratings, and the reputation of the university. The formula is simple: the more prestigious the educational institution, the higher the competition, which requires more serious preparation. Therefore, choose a university according to your actual level of knowledge or bring it up to the requirements of your desired university.

    Choosing a country and university

In recent years, Belarusians have stopped limiting themselves to England and America and have increasingly begun to pay attention to English-language programs at universities in Poland and Lithuania. Firstly, it's much closer to home, and secondly, the cost of tuition is quite reasonable. It's better to apply to several universities at once – this will increase your chances of admission.

    Poland

Many Belarusians choose Polish universities because it is possible to enroll in them without taking exams and study there for free. The higher education system in Poland is represented by universities, higher professional schools, schools of higher education, and colleges. You can study the complete list of educational institutions and their addresses here. Some foreigners may study on the same terms as Poles. For example, the holder of a Polish card will be able to study full-time for free. The number of budget places in private universities for foreigners is limited and is based on competition.

In Poland, you can choose full-time, part-time, and evening forms of study. At a full-time residence, the student attends classes 5 times a week. For part-time study, it's once every 2 weeks from morning to evening. For evening study, it's 5 days a week after 4 p.m.

You can study at a Polish university in Polish or English. Tuition fees in Polish are lower than in other programs. Upon graduation, the student receives a Polish diploma. The cost of studying in English is higher.

    Russia

Russian universities accept Belarusian applicants for all forms of education based on the results of the Unified State Exam and internal exams. About 50 quotas for free education are allocated each year. To get a place, you need to register on the website for selecting foreign applicants for studying at Russian universities, fill out the application form and submit the application. Those wishing to get a budget place will need to pass the competitive selection at the Russian Center for Science and Culture (it has branches in Minsk, Brest and Gomel). The university will send a response within three weeks. If it is positive, then along with it you will receive further instructions for action.

    Lithuania

In Lithuania, all higher education institutions are divided into universities and colleges. Universities provide academic education and train specialists at three levels: bachelor's, master's and doctorate. At college, you get practical skills and abilities in a narrow specialty.

Teaching at leading universities in Lithuania is conducted in Lithuanian, and private universities offer the option to choose the language of instruction. Education in Lithuania is provided in Lithuanian, English and Russian. For those who want to improve their language skills, it is possible to take preparatory courses in the summer before starting university studies.

Free education is available through Lithuanian-language programs at public universities. This is a great option for those who want to live and work in Lithuania. But if your future plans are aimed at Europe, it is better to opt for an English-language program. Of course, the cost of the program depends on the popularity and prestige of the higher education institution. The Lithuanian government offers a wide range of funding programs for students from the CIS countries. A system of scholarships and grants has been developed for international students. Therefore, you can try to receive a bonus from an international scholarship program and thereby reduce the tuition fee.

    Czech Republic

Foreign applicants enroll in Czech universities on an equal basis. Studying in the Czech Republic is possible in Czech, German, or English. As a rule, a Czech language exam is not required. However, budget study is only possible in the Czech language. The competition for admission to higher education institutions in the Czech Republic is two people per place, but much depends on the specific field of study. Entrance examinations include 2-3 tests taken in written form. Sometimes students are admitted based on the results of a high school diploma competition. You can apply after completing the 11th grade or after graduating from a university. Having a Belarusian education diploma is a significant advantage. If you are applying for a similar field of study in the Czech Republic, previously studied subjects may be credited from your first Belarusian diploma, and there is a chance that the duration of study will be reduced.

    Italy

«Academic freedom» is one of the principles of the education system in Italy. Anyone can enroll in a university if they are over 18, have a good knowledge of Italian, and have completed 12 years of education. With these conditions met, students from Belarus can enter the first university cycle without taking exams and enroll with a high school diploma + the first year of university or 9 years of school + 3 years of college. To receive education in Italy, all applications to public universities are submitted through the Italian Embassy in the Republic of Belarus and require personal submission by the applicant.

The Italian education system includes about 90 higher education institutions: public and private universities, specialized universities for foreigners, postgraduate schools, etc. A list of Italian universities with addresses and phone numbers can be viewed here.

Tuition in Italian universities is conducted in Italian and English. By learning the Italian language at a local language school, you will increase your chances of admission to any public university, as you will have to confirm your level of Italian language proficiency. In private universities in the country, classes are conducted in English.
