    Temporary registration in Belarus for citizens of the Russian Federation. What documents are needed and where to apply

    The relevance of obtaining temporary registration has only increased with the onset of the pandemic. Some people are staying longer in Belarus to help relatives, while others are forced to change their place of work and, consequently, their place of residence. It is not surprising that the number of requests for long-term stay has increased.

    We will try to answer the most important questions and figure out what documents are needed to obtain temporary registration if you have decided (or been forced) to stay in Belarus, and what period is permissible for staying in the country without registration.

    How long can citizens of the Russian Federation stay in Belarus without registration?

    Since Russia and Belarus have concluded an Agreement on ensuring equal rights to freedom of movement, the choice of place of stay in these countries depends largely on you, your life situation, and opportunities. But the period of stay in Belarus without registration is limited: citizens of Russia can legally stay in Belarus for 90 days from the date of entry. During this time, registration is not required for citizens of the Russian Federation.

    If you plan to stay in Belarus longer than three months, you need to take care of appropriate permission for temporary residence in the Republic of Belarus. To obtain such permission, you need grounds — they are enshrined in Article 48 of the Law on the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens and Stateless Persons in the Republic of Belarus. You can study this Law in more detail and read information about permission on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.

    What documents do you need to collect if you know for sure that temporary registration will be necessary for you?

    The first step towards obtaining temporary registration is to submit an application to the citizenship and migration department in the city where you are located (and intend to stay). If you do not know which department to choose and which one suits you, you can look for this information on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs: the link provides addresses and phone numbers of territorial departments for citizenship and migration in Belarus. Try to find the department that matches your request.

    – first of all (as we wrote above), you need to write an application;

    – prepare a document that confirms the grounds for obtaining a temporary residence permit (Article 48 of the Law mentioned above);

    – a document confirming the legality of your stay in Belarus;

    – the appropriate document for traveling abroad;

    – an issued insurance policy or a document confirming the existence of a medical insurance contract concluded with a foreign insurance organization, as foreign citizens and stateless persons must be insured by law in the Republic of Belarus;

    – prepare a document confirming a legal source of income that provides a foreign citizen/stateless person and their family with the minimum subsistence level established in the Republic of Belarus;

    – a document confirming the possibility of residence at the place of предполагаемого temporary residence;

    – a document confirming payment.

    Remember that such procedures, which require a lot of documents, should be approached responsibly and thoroughly. Try to find out the information and prepare the documents in advance so that you have time to make any changes. Information about the procedure for temporary registration and the documents needed for this can also be obtained from the Department of Citizenship and Migration at your place of residence.
