На границе Беларуси и России во время ЧМ-2018 по футболу появятся временные пункты досмотра

    04.05.2018
Temporary security checkpoints will be set up on the border of Belarus and Russia during the 2018 FIFA World Cup. This was reported by the press service of the President of Russia with reference to Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich.

On May 3 in Sochi, during a meeting of the supervisory board of the autonomous non-profit organization Russia 2018 Organizing Committee, Dvorkovich announced that work on equipping checkpoints across the state border was being completed. Temporary security checkpoints are to be set up on the border of Russia and Belarus.

"This is such a delicate issue, because we have a Union State. We have practically agreed with our Belarusian friends and colleagues on the order of movement of fans through the territory of the Republic of Belarus to Russia," he said.

Dvorkovich also drew attention to the fact that, if necessary, he would turn to Vladimir Putin for the necessary instructions in order to ensure full control at these temporary inspection points with the participation of the Russian Federal Border Guard Service and the Federal Security Service.

The State Border Committee of Belarus reported: they do not know when the Russians will set up temporary checkpoints. The Belarusian side does not plan any additional border check procedures during the championship.

       — We will carry out control only on the external border of the Union State, — said Anton Bychkovsky, an official representative of the State Border Committee of Belarus. — Foreigners who come to the championship as guests or in organized groups, as expected, will be allowed through a separate channel. The teams and the staff who accompany them will be served on a declarative basis as a matter of priority.

According to Anton Bychkovsky, foreigners will enter Belarus through international checkpoints on the borders of Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Ukraine.

       — And what will happen to the Belarusians who will go to the championship?

"No additional checks are planned on the Belarusian side," the source replied.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be held in Russia from June 14 to July 15, 2018.

Let us remind you that in February last year it became known that Russia was establishing a border zone on the border with Belarus. Since May 15, all Belarusian flights at Russian airports have been transferred to international terminals, and their passengers' documents have been checked. Belarusians began to complain that passport control now takes longer. The state-owned Belavia company reported that the decision of the Russian side may affect transit through Minsk. Despite this, Minsk has not taken any retaliatory measures.

On October 20, First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Russia Alexander Gorovoy announced that temporary border posts could be set up on the Russian-Belarusian border in the spring of 2018. The representative of the Russian ministry explained the appearance of the border posts by the concern of the Russian authorities about the openness of the border in conditions when the Belarusian authorities established a visa-free regime for 5 days for citizens of 80 countries in early 2017.

In November 2017, following a meeting in Moscow with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei said that Belarus and Russia expect to sign an agreement on mutual recognition of visas by the end of 2017. Then it was announced that the agreement would become operational in the first quarter of 2018.
