МИД советует белорусам избегать посещения границы Израиля и сектора Газа

    15.05.2018
Belarus is concerned about the escalation of violence on the Gaza-Israel border, which has led to numerous casualties. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus advises Belarusians to avoid protest sites, the press service of the ministry reports.

"Belarus is concerned about the escalation of violence along the dividing line between the Israeli and Palestinian territories, especially in the Gaza Strip, which has led to numerous civilian casualties," the ministry said in a statement.

The Belarusian Foreign Ministry called on the parties to the conflict to exercise restraint and refrain from actions that could lead to further bloodshed.

"We recommend Belarusian citizens staying in Israel to avoid protest sites," the Foreign Ministry added.

Recall that the protests began in the Gaza Strip on May 14 against the backdrop of the relocation of the American embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv and the 70th anniversary of the founding of Israel, which was timed to coincide with the transfer of the diplomatic mission.

Residents of the sector began to gather at the border in the morning, and Israeli army units were also deployed there. The Israeli Army aviation has distributed leaflets on the border with the Gaza Strip calling on the Palestinians to refrain from participating in violent protests and riots at the separation fence in the coming days. Escalation could not be avoided, and violent clashes broke out, which the Israeli security forces had to suppress.

According to the latest data, 59 Palestinians were killed, more than 2.7 thousand people were injured during the clashes, while 1,359 of them were injured by firearms.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu explained the country's actions by the need to "protect its borders." "We will continue to act decisively in order to protect our sovereignty and our citizens," he said.
