В Беларуси увеличивается число людей, живущих с ВИЧ

    20.05.2018
In Belarus, the number of people living with HIV is increasing. If in 2017 epidemiologists reported 18 thousand HIV carriers, then this year more than 19 thousand people with such a diagnosis have already been registered in Belarus. These data were released by the Republican Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health on the eve of World AIDS Memorial Day, which is celebrated worldwide on the third Sunday of May.

As noted by the World Health Organization, for more than 35 years humanity has known about the existence of HIV infection and the main routes of transmission, but every year the number of newly identified people infected with HIV is increasing.

In Belarus, in recent years, there has been a shift in HIV infection to the age groups of 35 years and older. If in 2000, 2.6 new cases of HIV infection were registered per 100 thousand of the 35-39 age population, in 2010 — 23.5, then in 2017 — more than 78.1 cases. Compared to 2000, the detection of HIV infection in the 30-34 age group increased by 7.9 times, among 35-39-year-olds — by 27 times. Today, HIV infection is most often detected in the 30-34 age group (22%), 35-39 years (22%) and 40-44 years (14.5%).

Mostly, infection occurs through sexual contact. So, over four months of this year, more than 80% of all new cases detected in the country account for the sexual transmission of HIV.
