Медики рекомендуют уточнить у туроператора эпидситуацию перед поездкой в экзотические страны

Medical professionals recommend checking with your tour operator about the epidemic situation before traveling to exotic countries, Irina Glinskaya, deputy chief physician of the Republican Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology, and Public Health, told reporters, BELTA correspondent reports.

"The first thing to do is to find out what the epidemiological situation is in the country you are going to, and what risks there are. This information can be obtained from the tour operator, on the websites of healthcare organizations and institutions of the sanitary and epidemiological service," Irina Glinskaya said.

The website of the Republican Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology, and Public Health lists countries with poor infectious disease situations. For example, cases of cholera in 2016-2018 were registered in Africa, South America, and the Caribbean, South, Southeast, and Central Asia. An outbreak of yellow fever has continued in Nigeria since September 2017 and in Brazil since January 2017. In 2018, there were single imported cases of this disease in Germany and the Netherlands. Dengue fever was registered, among other places, in Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia, Singapore, China, Indonesia, and Japan.

"When visiting countries such as India, Thailand, Egypt, and Vietnam, the risk of contracting viral hepatitis A and acute intestinal infections increases," Irina Glinskaya noted. "The epidemiological situation for measles remains unfavorable in Ukraine and some European countries, including Romania, Italy, Serbia, Greece, and France."

There are no travel or trade restrictions with these countries. At the same time, doctors recommend taking preventive measures to minimize the risk of infection. It is worth checking your vaccination history. This information can be obtained from your healthcare organization at your place of residence. If an adult or child is not vaccinated in accordance with the National Preventive Vaccination Calendar, it is worth consulting a doctor for immunization.

All vaccines provided for in the National Calendar are available in sufficient quantities in public healthcare organizations. Vaccinations are carried out free of charge.

Irina Glinskaya noted that protection is formed on average three to four weeks after vaccination. If we are talking about vaccination against tick-borne encephalitis, a slightly longer period is required for immunity to develop. The yellow fever vaccine must be given at least 10 days before departure. It can be done at the 19th Central District Polyclinic in Pervomaysky District of Minsk, where an internationally recognized certificate will be issued.
