The Schengen visa will become more expensive, up to 90 euros — will this affect Belarusians?

    21.05.2024
It is expected that higher consular fees will begin to be applied starting from June 11, 2024.

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia, citing a decision by the European Commission, announced an increase in the fee for issuing a Schengen visa for citizens of third countries. Will this measure affect Belarusians? Sputnik sought comment from a number of travel agencies that handle visa applications.

It should be noted that this is not only about Slovenia. The Schengen area covers 27 European countries that require a visa to visit. It is reported that the fee for issuing a Schengen visa for short-term stay (visa type C) will be increased by 12%. Higher fees, as the Slovenian Foreign Ministry writes, will begin to be applied worldwide starting from June 11.

"The new fee for issuing a Schengen visa is 90 euros for adults (visa applicants over 12 years of age) and 45 euros for children aged six to twelve years. For children under six years of age – free of charge," the ministry said in a statement.

The European Commission has not yet made any official statements regarding this measure, however, recall that the corresponding bill to increase visa fees was submitted in February of this year.

       What awaits Belarusians?

"Yes, it will cost 90 euros," said over the phone in one of the visa support services.

Another company clarified that unofficial information about the increase in the cost of a Schengen visa had been received, but there are few details so far.

And in a travel agency organizing bus tours in Europe, they replied that it was the first time they had heard such conversations.

"No, nothing has gone up in price – 65 euros. Submission through the visa center, so that's the cost... I don't know where you found this information (regarding 90 euros – Sputnik), we don't have such information from any embassy. They would have told us," the interlocutor noted.

Sputnik also sought comment from the Republican Union of Travel Organizations (RSTO). The response will be published later.

How much does a Schengen visa cost for Belarusians now?

In 2020, Belarus and the European Union ratified an agreement to simplify the visa regime. According to the document, starting from July 1 of the same year, the consular fee for issuing a Schengen visa for Belarusians was reduced from 60 to 35 euros. If it is necessary to apply through a visa center, a separate service fee is charged (from 11 to 30 euros).
