Belarus and Vietnam introduce visa-free regime

    19.06.2024
At a meeting of the first session of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus of the eighth convocation, deputies adopted a bill "On ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on the abolition of visas for holders of national passports," BELTA correspondent reports.

The agreement was signed in Hanoi on December 8, 2023. It is envisaged that citizens of Belarus and Vietnam, holders of national passports, can enter, leave, transit and stay without visas for a period not exceeding 30 days. "At the same time, the total duration of stay should not exceed 90 days in a calendar year. The provisions of the agreement do not limit the right of the competent authorities of each party to refuse entry or reduce the period of stay of a foreign citizen without explaining the reasons," noted Deputy Foreign Minister Yevgeny Shestakov.

Each party to the agreement may suspend its operation in full or in part in the interests of ensuring national security, public order, health care or in case of epidemics, natural disasters and other emergency situations.

"The agreement enters into force from the date of exchange of ratification documents by the parties and remains in force for an indefinite period of time. Until now, no information about the ratification of the agreement by the Vietnamese side has been received at the Belarusian Foreign Ministry," the deputy minister specified.

At the same time, each party may terminate the agreement at any time by written notification of the other party through diplomatic channels.

"The agreement will simplify the regime of mutual trips of citizens of the two countries, will contribute to strengthening bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam," Yevgeny Shestakov emphasized.
