Safety precautions while traveling abroad: how to protect yourself from human trafficking

    25.07.2024
In summer, many people like to relax outside of Belarus: Turkey and Egypt are currently popular and affordable destinations. Unfortunately, women and children have to take special care when vacationing in Muslim countries because there are many cases of human trafficking associated with them. In this article, we talk about precautions that will help you protect yourself on vacation.

       1) Treat new acquaintances with caution. Never get in a car with a stranger, especially if he is very persistent and describes in vivid colors the advantages of spending time together: "Let's go, I'll take you to a private club that only the locals know about!" If, after refusing, a new acquaintance begins to show aggression, this is a clear sign that it's time for you to leave.

       2) Never drink drinks bought by strangers, and also do not leave your own drinks unattended. Unfortunately, this advice is always relevant, and not just for holidays abroad. Men in bars or clubs can thus make a "compliment" to the girl they like, but it is very dangerous to accept such gifts, since there may be a drug in the drink. Criminals often use this method so that the victim does not remember either the perpetrator's face, the place where she will be taken, or the rape itself. At best, the victim will be left to recover in some inconspicuous place on the street, at worst, she may be abducted altogether.

       3) You should not unconditionally trust even the guides. People who hold such positions have a certain authority in the eyes of people — after all, they are a guide around the country. For this reason, it is easier for them to manipulate tourists and take them anywhere. Keep a critical mindset and don't agree to everything the guide tells you, especially if you're vacationing with your daughters. If you are offered to split up ("Let's go in that column, and your daughter will sit next to me, and we will go together"), do not do this under any pretext. Always stay in each other's field of vision.

       4) Always lock the doors in hotel rooms or rented apartments. You can also buy a door stopper with an alarm and a hidden camera detector. Hidden cameras are often installed in apartments for rent for a short period of time. If you don't want to buy a detector, you can also use a phone with a flashlight.
