       Question 1: How is the marriage of Belarusian citizens with a foreigner registered in accordance with the Code of the Republic of Belarus on Marriage and Family?

       The marriage is registered by the registry office at the place of residence of one of the spouses.

       Question 2: Is it necessary to obtain a visa to enter Belarus to get married? What type of visa should foreigners obtain to get married?

       Foreigners planning to get married in Belarus must obtain a short-term visa (type "C" – tourist or private). The visa is issued at the diplomatic missions of Belarus abroad. In some cases, it is possible to use the visa-free regime if the foreign citizen belongs to a category that has the right to visa-free entry.

       Question 3: Is registration of foreign citizens on the territory of Belarus required when applying for marriage?

       When applying for marriage, a foreign citizen must be registered with the internal affairs bodies (migration service). This registration confirms the legality of his stay in the country and is a mandatory condition for submitting documents to the registry office.

       Question 4: What documents are required to register a marriage with the registry office in accordance with paragraph 5.2 of the list of administrative procedures approved by Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus dated April 26, 2010, No. 200?

       According to paragraph 5.2 of the list of administrative procedures, the following documents are required to conclude a marriage:

       application form;

       identity documents of the spouses;

       documents confirming the termination of previous marriages (if any);

       document confirming payment of the state fee;

       a certificate of no impediment to marriage issued by the competent authority of the foreign citizen's country of citizenship or country of residence.

       Question 5: Under what conditions does the civil registry office accept documents issued by competent authorities of foreign countries?

       Documents issued by competent authorities of foreign countries must be legalized or apostilled in the prescribed manner. A notarized translation of the documents into Russian or Belarusian is also required.

       Question 6: What is the time frame for the administrative procedure (marriage registration)? Marriage registration is carried out one month after the application is submitted. If there are valid reasons, marriage registration may be possible before this period.

       Question 7: Can foreigners or stateless persons who do not have permanent residence permits in the Republic of Belarus conclude a marriage in Belarus?

       Foreign citizens and stateless persons who do not have a permanent residence permit may conclude a marriage in Belarus on a general basis by presenting documents confirming the legality of their stay.

       Question 8: What type of stay can a foreigner in the Republic of Belarus apply for after marrying a citizen of Belarus?

       After registering a marriage, a foreigner can apply for temporary or permanent residence in Belarus based on the marriage. This will allow them to legally stay, reside, and find employment in the country.
