    The downsides of illegal work in Russia for Belarusians: how to avoid deception and protect your rights

    10.11.2025
       In this article, you will learn why illegal work in Russia is dangerous for Belarusians, how to find legal employment, what documents are required, where you can get free advice, and what to do if you become a victim of fraud during the job placement process.

       Why illegal work in Russia is a risk for Belarusians

       Many Belarusians see working in Russia as a convenient opportunity to earn money quickly. On the internet, you can find hundreds of ads like: "work in Russia for Belarusians on a rotational shift basis", "work in Russia with accommodation", "vacancies without experience", etc.

       However, attractive offers often hide risks and fraudulent schemes. The hotline of the Business Women's Club regularly receives calls from those who left without proper documentation. People talk about unpaid wages, poor living conditions, passport retention, and threats from employers.

       Illegal employment makes a person completely dependent and defenceless. In such situations, there is a high risk of becoming a victim of labour or sexual exploitation — in fact, to fall into a situation associated with human trafficking.

       The main disadvantages of illegal work abroad

       - lack of an official employment contract and wage guarantees;

       - inability to protect your rights in court or contact the labour inspectorate;

       - risk of falling into labour or sexual slavery;

       - inability to confirm work experience and receive social benefits;

       - fear of deportation, fines, or a ban on entry into Russia.

       Illegal work may seem like a quick way to earn money, but in reality, it often ends in the loss of money, documents, and health.

       How to legally get a job in Russia

       To avoid problems, it is important to prepare all the necessary documents in advance and make sure that the employer is acting legally.

       For legal employment, a citizen of Belarus will need:

       a passport of a citizen of the Republic of Belarus;

       - an employment contract with a Russian employer;

       - health insurance valid in the territory of the Russian Federation;

       - registration at the place of stay;

       - an education document, qualifications or proof of special skills (if required for the profession).

       Before signing the contract, read all the conditions carefully: salary amount, working hours, place of residence, travel expenses and meals. Never give your passport to an employer or intermediary.

       If you have doubts or questions, seek free consultation on the hotline of the Business Women's Club — specialists will explain how to work legally and how to protect your rights.

       If you have been deceived when applying for a job in Russia

       If you encounter fraud, non-payment of wages, threats or confiscation of documents:

       1. Do not face the problem alone.

       2. Contact the hotline of the Business Women's Club — specialists will help you safely get out of the situation and explain where to go for help.

       3. You can also contact the embassy or consulate of Belarus in Russia, as well as the law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation.

       4. If you suspect that you have become a victim of human trafficking, this is a reason to seek help immediately.

       The hotline of the Business Women's Club provides free consultations on employment, protection of rights, and safety abroad.

       Call if:

       - you have questions during the employment process;

       - you are offered highly paid work without requiring qualifications or special skills;

       - you are unsure about the legality of employment;

       - you have problems with your employer in Russia.

       Safety starts with awareness. Work legally — and let your work bring only benefit and confidence in the future.
