Traveling to Germany: What You Should Know About Tourism

Personal safety rules while vacationing in Germany

Since Germany is a Schengen country, holders of a Schengen visa from any country can enter Germany without an additional German visa. Accordingly, with a German Schengen visa, after visiting Germany, you can visit any European countries in the Schengen area. However, keep in mind that if the purpose of your stay was specified as a tourist trip to Germany, you do not have the right to deviate from this purpose and spend all the time in another country.

Visas are issued through the German embassy in Minsk if you are planning a trip to Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Denmark, Austria, or Slovenia.

The German embassy does not issue visas to Belarusian citizens whose usual place of residence is outside Belarus, for example, if they are studying in Russia or working in the USA. In such cases, you must contact the diplomatic mission at your place of residence. This also applies to traveling Belarusian citizens who want to return to Belarus via Germany by air and need a transit visa for this.

The consular fee for processing a Schengen visa application is 60 euros. Schengen visas for children under the age of 6 are issued without a consular fee.

When applying for visas for children aged 6-12, a consular fee of 35 euros is charged. Exception: Schengen visas are issued for underage citizens of the Republic of Belarus aged 6-12 without a consular fee.

Main documents for obtaining a Schengen visa.
    1. A fully completed application form, with handwritten signatures in the three places provided for this (for minors: the signature of at least one legal representative)
    2. Two current biometric passport photos (not older than 6 months). Stick one photo on the application form, attach the other separately (it will be returned to you after processing)
    3. Medical insurance policy. Travel health insurance valid for all Schengen countries, with an insurance amount of at least 30,000 euros, covering the costs of emergency medical care and/or emergency hospitalization in a healthcare facility, as well as full costs if transportation back to the home country is necessary in case of illness or death.
When applying for a visa with the possibility of multiple entries/exits, it is sufficient to present health insurance for the period of the first trip.
    4. Passport and a copy of the pages with personal data (for example, pages 31-33 of the Belarusian passport)
      • at least 2 blank pages for visa stamps (marked „VISAS“);
      • valid for at least 3 months after the completion of the requested trip.
For travel to Schengen countries, only passports issued no more than 10 years ago can be used, even if they are valid for a longer period.

Documents to confirm the purpose of the trip
    • confirmation of booking (hotel, pension) or
    • in case of an organized tour: confirmation and tour operator's program with hotel booking confirmation
IMPORTANT: Cancellation of booking may lead to the annulment of the tourist visa! If you change your booking, you will need to justify and document it.

    • in case of traveling by car: driver's license, vehicle documents with a copy
    Proof of funding
    • income statement for the last three months and current account statement (this amount must cover the following expenses: at least 25 euros for food per day per person plus accommodation and travel in both directions)
