How to obtain and apply for a residence permit or permanent residence in Lithuania if you want to immigrate
Ways to obtain a residence permit and permanent residence in Lithuania
If you have decided to immigrate to Lithuania, you need to look for legal ways of immigration.
Family reunification.
If parents, spouse, or children reside in Lithuania, a relative can obtain a temporary residence permit and then apply for a residence permit in Lithuania. For international families in which one of the spouses is Lithuanian, a mandatory condition for obtaining permanent residence for the foreign spouse is the successful passing of an exam in the Lithuanian language, as well as an exam on the fundamentals of the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania.
The right to permanent residence can be obtained after receiving temporary annual permits for five consecutive years. Permanent residence allows you to live in Lithuania for another 5 years, after which it can be extended. However, permanent residence will be granted only when a foreigner married to a Lithuanian citizen has lived in the territory of the Republic of Lithuania without interruption for at least five years.
Intentions to work in Lithuania.
It is not easy to obtain a work visa to Lithuania. The Lithuanian labor exchange distributes job places. This organization issues quotas for job places for foreigners, so the issue of employment and the issuance of a work visa is usually resolved for a long time and not always in favor of the future immigrant. An easier way to legalize your stay in the country is to open a private business, and then, having a residence permit, look for a job.
Business immigration
According to the legislation of the EU countries, by opening your own enterprise (or buying someone else's) in Lithuania (the Lithuanian legislation also provides for the possibility of business immigration), you get the right to legally reside and work in this country, as well as the right to travel and reside in any of the EU countries. Business immigration to Lithuania is relatively simple if the immigrant has shares in a Lithuanian company or has registered their own business. Sometimes owning 10% of the shares of a large and serious company is enough for you to be granted a temporary residence permit. Opening a business in the country is quite inexpensive; it is usually possible to get by with 3 thousand euros when obtaining all the permits and necessary documents. At the same time, you will have to be personally present in Lithuania only twice; you will be able to leave on a tourist visa. But, by and large, it is not necessary to come at all: a trusted person can set up an enterprise.
After the enterprise is created, you need to submit documents to the Lithuanian migration services, and you will immediately receive a business visa that is valid in the Schengen zone for 3 months. After 3 months, you will be granted a residence permit for up to 6 months.
Although this path is not easy and quick, with the help of law firms specializing in providing services in the field of business immigration, you can quite legally, without unnecessary material costs, obtain a residence permit in 6 months and become a citizen of the European Union.
At present, this procedure has been simplified. So, if earlier foreigners, when registering an enterprise with the Ministry of Economy, had to submit a business plan, etc., now it is enough to submit an application to the Registry Center and put the minimum authorized capital of 10,000 litas on the account. Ten foreigners can be co-owners of such an enterprise — then they need to invest a thousand litas each — and you are a citizen of Lithuania 1 520!
After two years, you can request permission to bring your families. And if the wife becomes a co-owner of the enterprise, everything becomes even simpler: legally living in Lithuania, parents can bring their children.
A citizen of another country is seeking asylum in Lithuania.
Temporary protection is provided by the state for political refugees, victims of human trafficking; in addition, permission to stay in the country is also granted to seriously ill people who either undergo treatment in the country or, due to their health condition, cannot travel by transport.
Research activities under contract.
If a researcher works for the benefit of Lithuania and has an employment contract with one of the research companies, a temporary residence permit will be issued 2-3 weeks after submitting the documents. Such a visa is issued for the duration of the contract. The immigrant is allowed to move freely around the country and leave the country.
There is an opportunity for research activities under contract. This is when a researcher will work for the benefit of Lithuania. At the same time, he will have a signed employment contract with one of the research companies, and he will be given temporary residence after 2-3 weeks after submitting the documents. Such a visa will be issued for the duration of the contract. The immigrant can move freely around the country and leave Lithuania.
Education and higher education in Lithuania
The intention to receive education in Lithuania (according to the secondary education program, higher education, professional development, internships, etc.) can be the basis for granting a residence permit. According to the rules for admission to Lithuanian universities, foreigners need to provide a certificate of completion of secondary school in their country, entrance exams (this depends on the chosen institution and faculty), a residence permit or student visa, and a financial guarantor (it certifies that the student will be able to pay for tuition and insurance).
A foreign student who wants to receive higher education in Lithuania must pass a test on knowledge of the Lithuanian language (orally and in writing), which is conducted by Vilnius University. And remember that some programs may be conducted in English, French, German, and Russian. Diplomas from higher educational institutions in Lithuania are recognized in EU member countries.
Real estate in Lithuania
Buying a house with land will be a very good investment, which can also be an object of rent, in other words, a source of income. But in order to buy land, you need to establish at least a personal enterprise, because in Lithuania land is not sold to citizens of other countries, that is, everything again comes down to business immigration. In this case, a personal enterprise, having signed a lease agreement, stops its activities for 12 months and does not need financial support. The issue of residence can be resolved depending on what kind of building is located on the purchased land (residential building or industrial building).
You cannot buy land in private ownership, which belongs exclusively to Lithuania (this includes land allocated for the seaside strip or territories of state sea ports, inland waters, etc.).
Citizenship of Lithuania
You can obtain citizenship of Lithuania by birth if the child was born to citizens of Lithuania, regardless of the country of birth. If only one parent is a citizen of Lithuania, then the child will receive citizenship only if born in Lithuania.
Citizenship can be obtained by naturalization if you have lived continuously in the country for 10 years, have a stable income, and pass an exam in the Lithuanian language.
