Studying in Poland. What does a prospective student need to know?

Want to get quality European education, but don't want to go far away? There is a solution – take a closer look at universities in neighboring countries. For example, Poland. This is a popular and accessible option for Belarusian applicants. Experts from the "Club of Business Women" of the "hotline for safe departure, stay abroad and combating human trafficking" 8-801-201-5555 and 113 will tell you about the specifics of obtaining higher education in Poland.

    Advantages of studying in Poland

Convenient location. The distance from the Belarusian to the Polish capital is about 550 kilometers. Just six hours by car – and you're in Warsaw.

Multiple visa. Students of Polish universities receive a multiple-entry Schengen visa. This automatically expands the boundaries of travel. Your trips are not limited to Poland alone, you can go to any point in Europe.

Diploma recognition in Europe. A diploma of higher education of the European level expands opportunities for professional realization. With a Polish diploma, graduates can build a successful career in any country of the European Union.

Affordable prices. The cost of education at the European level is much lower than in other countries of the European Union.

    How to apply?

You can apply to a Polish university through the Polish consulate or independently. Most universities have switched to electronic admission – which means you only need to go to Poland for the exam and/or to submit documents. Exams take place in May. By June 30, Belarusian applicants must submit CT certificates to the admissions committee (or send a scanned copy).

Absolutely all Polish universities have Polish language courses, which every Belarusian applicant can take in order to assimilate with Poles more quickly and adopt their linguistic traditions and culture during the period of study.

    Which educational institution to choose?

The higher education system in Poland includes technical, medical, theater, agricultural, pedagogical, economic universities, music and military academies, higher professional schools, schools of higher education, and colleges. There are about 400 higher education institutions in Poland in total. A list and addresses of Polish educational institutions can be found on the website Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Poland/ Ministerstwo Nauki i Szkolnictwa Wyższego. Higher education institutions can be either public or private. However, not all of them are equally popular among Belarusians. The higher education institutions that Belarusians most often apply to are listed here.

Almost all higher education institutions in Poland set their own admission rules, so visit the university's website and study the information about the admission process. If something is unclear, write an email to the university's email addresses; in 99% of cases, they will definitely respond. You can also always call the higher education institution, where they will answer questions in detail. There are also groups of Polish universities on the social network vk.com. You can find Russian-speaking students there and ask for advice on a particular issue.

Who pays, and who studies for free?

In some public ones, you can enroll without taking exams and study for free. In private universities, the number of budget places is limited and is based on competition. All Belarusians can study at Polish higher education institutions, but the rules for their enrollment vary depending on the foreigner's status in Poland. Some foreigners, like Polish citizens, can study for free.

There are higher education institutions that accept international students for free study without a Polish card:

    - Warsaw Polytechnic University.

    - Silesian University in Katowice

    - University of Economics in Katowice.

    - Polytechnic University in Łódź.

    - Polytechnic University in Białystok.

    - Wrocław University.

    - Wrocław University of Technology.

    - Higher Banking School in Wrocław.

Other foreigners will have to study on a paid basis. A bachelor's degree, depending on the program, costs 2000 — 3000 euros per year. But there is an option to receive a scholarship or grant that exempts you from payment. The cost also depends on the language of instruction. Tuition in Polish is lower than in the English program. Often, Polish universities offer discounts. An international applicant in a difficult financial situation can ask for a discount or receive financial assistance. It is also possible to receive these bonuses for excellent studies.
